Prepare for an exhilarating week of PGA TOUR action as the 2023 FedExCup Fall series continues with the highly anticipated Butterfield Bermuda Championship in Southampton, Bermuda. This event has gained traction over its five-year run, offering a unique opportunity to savvy bettors looking for an edge.

While it may not boast the marquee names of some other tournaments, the Butterfield Bermuda Championship has consistently delivered thrilling competition and surprising outcomes. This year promises to be no different. The lush coastal course in Southampton poses a challenge that demands experience and skill, with windy conditions often coming into play. This levels the playing field, making it an event where both seasoned veterans and rising stars can shine.

This week’s favorites are Adam Scott, Thomas Detry, and Brendon Todd, who are poised to make their mark on the picturesque Bermudian landscape. To guide you through the best bets, I’ll share my expert picks for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, providing valuable insights into the most enticing betting opportunities on offer. So, stay tuned as we delve into the exhilarating world of PGA TOUR action, where every swing and putt carries the potential for triumph and glory.

Adam Scott
DraftKings Odds: +1600

In a field of formidable contenders, Adam Scott emerges as a golfer of exceptional skill and a track record that surpasses his peers this week. Surprisingly, the odds fail to fully acknowledge his prowess, placing him on par with accomplished players like Brendon Todd and Thomas Detry.

While Scott’s schedule may be packed with promotional commitments for his new TGL venture on the Boston Common, it’s worth noting that the Port Royal Golf Course, this week’s battleground, doesn’t demand exactness. This bodes well for the seasoned Australian, who brings experience and precision to the tournament.

Scott’s standings in key metrics such as Comparative Course History, Strokes Gained Putting, Birdies or Better Gained, and Strokes Gained Total (in High Winds) place him in the upper echelons of the tournament field. All signs point to a solid performance from the Australian, making him a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.

Taylor Pendrith
DraftKings Odds: +2200

Taylor Pendrith’s return to the Bermuda Championship promises to be a redemption story in the making. Two years ago, an untimely onslaught of adverse Sunday weather thwarted his shot at a maiden PGA TOUR victory. With that memory etched in his mind, Pendrith arrives with a burning determination to clinch the title.

His last appearance here resulted in a formidable T5 finish, showcasing his prowess on this challenging course. Remarkably, in recent outings, Pendrith has demonstrated a scorching run of form, notching up impressive placements of T15 and T3. While known for his prowess as a bomber, Pendrith has proven his mettle on shorter courses, adding an intriguing dimension to his game.

When you factor in this recent surge in form, his impeccable fit for the course, and the encouraging history he brings, there’s an undeniable air of anticipation surrounding Pendrith’s return to Bermuda. This could be the moment he seizes his moment of triumph.

Vincent Whaley
DraftKings Odds: +5500

Vincent Whaley has been making some serious waves in the FedEx Cup Fall series, showcasing his versatility by seamlessly transitioning between the Korn Ferry and PGA TOUR this season. It’s a testament to his skill and adaptability that he’s managed to not only make the cut but secure three impressive top-30 finishes in all four starts this Fall. And let’s not forget his stellar T7 performance here, even when his form in 2021 was a tad shaky.

This tells me one thing: Whaley’s current momentum is a force to be reckoned with, and Bermuda might just be the stage for him to prove his mettle further. Keep an eye on this rising star – he’s poised for something special.

Kramer Hickok
DraftKings Odds: +8000

Alright, folks, here’s a gem of a value bet for you – none other than Kramer Hickok. This guy’s got a track record at Port Royal that reads like a golfer’s dream. I’m talking about finishes of T15, T8, and T30 in his first three appearances – seriously impressive stuff. Now, here’s the kicker: like past champs Brendon Todd and Brian Gay, Hickok’s got that laser-like precision when it comes to driving accuracy. It’s his secret weapon, and it’s one that’s bound to make waves in Bermuda.

Plus, he’s riding high on some excellent form, capping off with a solid T15 showing at last week’s World Wide Technology Championship. Keep an eye on Hickok, folks – he’s got the mojo for something special!

Cameron Percy
DraftKings Odds: +13000

Here’s a longshot you don’t want to overlook! Cameron Percy, sitting at a juicy 130-1, is the dark horse we’re talking about. This guy’s got that special spark, evident from his first-round leader status in Mexico just last week. It’s crystal clear that Percy’s still got the fire in his belly to conquer a coastal resort course like this one.

And let me tell you, coastal courses are his playground. The man’s got a stellar track record, boasting four top-15 finishes in the last two seasons on similar resort-style greens. So, don’t be surprised if Percy makes serious noise in this accessible, weather-influenced event. He’s a sleeper pick with potential written all over him!

Key statistics

Players listed are competing this week. Stats from the current 2022-23 season.

Strokes Gained: Approach

15Lucas Glover
19Russell Knox
21Ryan Moore
26Sam Ryder
30Akshay Bhatia
31Alex Smalley
33Charley Hoffman

The fairways at Port Royal are some of the tightest and most undulating on TOUR. The last two winners have not ranked in the top 40 in Driving Accuracy. The difficulty of finding the short grass off the tee, combined with the 2 inches of Bermuda rough and uneven lies, should highlight those who can control irons and attack flags. For the second week running, the green complexes are some of the largest on TOUR. Plenty will find them in regulation, but I’m looking for the players who can wedge it close and take advantage of the scoring chances.

Putting: Birdie or Better Percentage

13Sam Ryder
T14Martin Trainer
17Harry Hall
22Lucas Herbert
T26Tano Goya
T26Scott Piercy
T29Richy Werenski
31Thomas Detry
33Carl Yuan
34Patton Kizzire

Measuring 8,000 square feet on average, TifEagle Bermuda greens are accessible regardless of the vigor of the Atlantic breezes. The wind, or chances of it gusting, limits the speed of the greens at a very attackable 10 feet on the Stimpmeter. When the wind lays down, birdies and eagles are prevalent and will need to be added to the card.

Bogey Avoidance

7Doug Ghim
12Ryan Moore
15Brendon Todd
26Cameron Percy
T28Lucas Glover
32Henrik Norlander
37Andrew Novak
T38Alex Smalley
43Russell Knox

The calm winds on Thursday will give way to breezes from the opposite direction on Friday. More energy off the Atlantic in the form of wind is expected Saturday before shifting out of the north for the final round. With four different sets of playing conditions, I’m going to lean on players who can grind out pars and take scoring chances when presented with the opportunity.
